Troye Drives Us WILD

Troye Sivan recently released a new music video WILD, the the first of a three video set called Blue Neighborhood.

Troye Sivan, a popular Australian actor and youtube star that launched a music career last year, is back with new music this month. First we got a taste this summer with his collaboration with Zedd on the song Papercut. Now we see Troye launching a three music video set, Blue Neighborhood .

In August of 2014, Troye Sivan debuted his first and until last week, only music video Happy Little Pill. On youtube he has amassed a large following with many videos receiving one million hits each. While his youtube videos tend to show the adventures of a fun loving gay teenager, his music videos go deeper and darker.

Happy Little Pill is an electronic journey into his mind. The video uses imagery of dark nights, flying owls and sensual love sessions, and the lyrics imply drug to “take me away”. His debut song certainly left one asking who is this kid and where can I find more of his music?

WILD does not disappoint and continues to portray his music in a far more serious light than his youtube videos. Troye Sivan caused a stir coming out on youtube and in WILD he confronts his sexual orientation head on. A sweet yet dark video of young love between best friends and possibly more. From scenes of two young boys being friends, to Troye embracing a young man who’s face is unseen.

Troye continues singing with a sound that is part pop and part electronic in some ways not that far from the sound of Years & Years. However, Ollie Alexander sings with hint of sexual energy, whereas Troye Sivan sings from a place of almost deep sadness. A surprising sound from a young man who comes off on youtube as happy go lucky.

Do not let those youtube videos fool you. Troy Sivan is certainly the real thing and I would suspect he is going places. Troye has the voice, depth and imagery to go all the way and it is this writer’s hope we see just that.
